Partnership Track Position – Interventional Radiology

VRCI is a group of 29 radiologists providing Radiology and Nuclear Medicine services with multiple partner organizations in the Greater Victoria area, British Columbia, including Island Health, BC Cancer and West Coast Medical Imaging.

Our group of Interventional Radiologists consists of 6 members who cover Body and Neuro Interventional Radiology services at two tertiary care hospital sites (Royal Jubilee Hospital and Victoria General Hospital), and participate in the general radiology portion of our practice (roughly 70:30 split).

Our referral base exceeds 800,000 people, and we provide all the diagnostic imaging services for the greater Victoria area in British Columbia, Canada. This includes image interpretation and image guided interventional procedures at 6 Island Health sites, 2 private imaging facilities, and BCCA Victoria.

Scope of Interventional Radiology Practice:

  • Two full-service angiography suites providing a range of procedural work.
    • Royal Jubilee Hospital predominantly covers peripheral vascular disease, dialysis and GI interventions and general IR.
    • Victoria General Hospital predominantly covers our full complement of Interventional Oncology practice, acute/inpatient neuro interventional work and general IR.
  • IR service also includes patient consultations and multi-disciplinary round participation.
  • Pain medicine is predominantly practiced in two separate minor procedure suites.

Scope of General Radiology Practice

Prospective IRs should be comfortable providing general radiology level of interpretation in radiography, ultrasound, CT and MRI. We are open to retraining candidates in some areas of radiology practice they are less comfortable with on the job if they are motivated. Diagnostic call is not mandatory but available for interested candidates. Diagnostic imaging occurs via a common worklist and partners can pursue subspecialty imaging expertise.

    All successful candidates must have:

    • FRCPC Certification in Diagnostic Radiology
    • Fellowship Training in Body Interventional Radiology (or planning to do so)
    • Neuro-interventional Training is not a requirement. Candidates will be expected to complete on the job training to obtain privileges for endovascular stroke therapy.
    • Eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC

    Work Expectations:

    • Participation in after-hours call coverage (shared between all the IRs)
    • 10 weeks vacation guaranteed for associate members.
    • Participation in a subset of multidisciplinary clinical rounds targeted to area(s) of subspecialty expertise.

    Why Victoria?

Victoria is a beautiful city to raise a family with wonderful people and excellent locales. Our practice is an equal opportunity practice and most members are good friends outside of work. The IR practice is comprehensive involving nearly all components of IR. Significant IR expansion is being planned and we are looking for motivated candidates wishing to grow the practice. We offer competitive compensation, and flexible scheduling options.
